THERAPY MINIATURE HORSES
❤️ Our Pride and Joy. ❤️
EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY
Equine Assisted Therapy is becoming more and more popular these days and there is no better candidate for the job than an American Miniature Horse. Their compact size makes traveling from place to place as simple as jumping in the back seat of a van or pickup truck. No horse trailer necessary! And their intelligence and longevity guarantees that the training put into a therapy horse far exceeds the lifespan of a therapy dog by at least 2 to 3 decades of continued therapy work.
Equine Assisted Therapy helps an individual build confidence, trust, communication and social skills. It has been proven effective in treating depression, anxiety and PTSD as well as aiding patients with ADHD, autism, and other mental health issues. The main job of a therapy horse, in simplest terms, is to put a smile on your face and make the world a happier place.
In the Summer of 2019, I was the victim of a very serious accident which left me hospitalized and incapacitated for an extended period of time. Five days after the accident, we celebrated the birth of a tiny filly who showed great promise to become a therapy mini. Unnamed for weeks, the tiny filly also dealt with her own health issue, requiring 4 times daily eye medications. At 2 weeks of age, she showed amazing trust in people by allowing my son to administer the medications without any assistance. It wasn't until 6 weeks later that I finally had the opportunity to meet her in person. Her comical antics around people provided the perfect name and soon after, it became apparent that Mischief had become MY therapy mini by default! Wheelchairs, walkers and crutches became as common for Mischief as feed buckets, water troughs, and wheel barrows. For Mischief, her therapy training had begun by default.
BASIC TRAINING
Training for a miniature therapy horse begins immediately at birth when our newly born foals are imprinted. The foals become accustomed to being held and touched all over. They are acclimated to new sights, sounds and situations on a daily basis. They travel to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, stores, horse shows and private homes. Our community provides many opportunities for us to expose our minis to varied experiences as they value the role our therapy minis will play in the future. The minis take their job seriously, and successfully complete several visits in their young life before leaving us to carry on their work and training in their new homes, always putting a smile on the faces of those they meet and making the world a happier place!
We are proud to say that each year, more and more of our minis are sought after for therapy and service homes.
